BATIAS Independent Advocacy has an exciting opportunity.

We are looking for an

Self Advocacy Facilitator

This role is to support groups of people with learning disabilities to have their voice heard. The aim will be to empower the members to develop their self-advocacy skills, to discuss topics which worry them, and support one another to speak up for themselves, ask questions and understand the services and support available to them in their local community. The groups will cover topics such as housing, benefits, volunteering and employment skills, hate crime and keeping safe, public transport and health and will invite speakers such as community police officers, specialist advisors and commissioners of services to attend the group to share information and answer the group members questions.

The role is for 4 hours / week at £12.85 per hour.

The post is initially for 12 months.

The post holder will be responsible for the facilitating self-advocacy groups in the Thurrock area, supported by an assistant facilitator. The post holder will be based at our head office in Thurrock. The post holder may also be offered additional opportunities for other advocacy work on a 1:1 basis.

BATIAS independent Advocacy Service is looking for new trustees!

BATIAS is a charity which works with people with learning disabilities, supporting them to have their voices heard and their rights upheld. We are looking for volunteers who support our mission to provide advocacy services that empower our clients to secure their rights, obtain services they need and make positive and informed choices about their lives.

We are looking for people who have:

  • An understanding of the voluntary sector or volunteer experience
  • Funding applications, Fundraising and Financial experience
  • Good communication skills and are able to work as part of a team
  • A commitment to improve the lives of vulnerable people

Our aim is to empower people to lead a full and active life that reflects personal choice.
